Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 11: Meeting conveyed by a faction of Congress leaders on Sunday in an Air Condition room to opposing shifting of AIIMS to Kashmir Valley is nothing but to sabotage newly appointed Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir, who has kicked start an aggressive campaign against PDP-BJP coalition regime.
Conveying a meeting in the absence of Mir is a clear indication that Congress leaders have not learnt any lesson from its worst ever defeat in the Lok Sabha and Parliamentary elections. Interestingly all the leaders, who were present in the Sunday's meeting are known to be loyalists of Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad so the meeting is considered as very crucial and important.
Two aspects attached with Sunday's meeting either Ghulam Nabi Azad is not fully supporting Mir or his loyalists have decided to abonden him for supporting Mir.
During a rally at Jammu on May 3, Azad in the presence of Mir had made it clear that some leaders in the Congress were mis-using his name to fuel factionalism in the party.
Interestingly in May 3 meeting, most of the Congress leaders who were present on May 10 meeting, were conspicuous by their absence. Their decision of hold separate meeting without taking PCC chief into confidence is a clear indication that Azad loyalists are not ready to accept Mir as state president.
As reported senior Congress leaders from Jammu region deliberated upon the problems being faced by the people of State in general and Jammu province in particular and callous attitude of the BJP-PDP Government in solving the same.
It was felt by all the leaders that both BJP and PDP have exploited the sentiments of the people of the State and obtained their votes by creating communal polarization. They discussed several issues in detail and urged upon the Government to pay serious attention in order to carry out the redressal of the same.
It was felt that the decision of the Government to establish AIIMS at Srinagar instead of Jammu was most unfortunate, by the Government inspite of the fact that both State and Union Government have admitted that the AIIMs will be established at Jammu.
They pointed out that the issue of refugees of 1947, 1965, 1971 and West Pakistan is still unsettled which is pending for the last many decades. They to ted It is pertinent to mention here that the previous coalition government where Congress was partner, had submitted a package to the Government of India for grant of financial assistance. However, it is unfortunate that present NDA Government is sleeping over the same and demanded an immediate release of the package.
Prominent among those who expressed their views included Tara Chand (Ex-DyCM), Janak Raj Gupta (Ex-MP), Gulchain Singh Charak (former minister & former member CWC-AICC), Hari Singh ( former senior vice president PCC J&K), Jugal Kishore Sharma- MLC and Leader of Upper House, RS Chib (former minister), Ashok Sharma (Ex-MLA), Amolak Singh, Hukam Chand and Chuni Lal Bhatt.
