Early Times Report

Jammu, May 11 : Blame it on the insensitivity and apathetical attitude of the politicians and government babus, a family from Arnia that lost its four members to Pak shelling that also left ten others injured, is still waiting for a compensation. The plight of the family can gauged from the fact that it is impelled to mortgage its belongings to meet expenses incurred in the treatment of those injured.
Those who lost their lives that fateful day of October 6, 2014 included Parshotam Kumar s/o Lakshman Dass, Kajal Dewi d/o Parshotam Dass, Satya Dewi w/o Shaju Ram and Rajesh Kumar s/o Maka Ram, while injured are Darshana Dewi w/o Parshotam Lal,Munish Kumar S/o Parshotam Lal,Sushil Kumar S/o Parshotam Lal,Vijay Kumar s/o Shaju Ram,Sohan Lal S/o Shaju Ram,Bero Dewi w/o ,ala Ram, Jyoti Dewi w/o Pawan,Honey S/o Pawan, Tersam s/o Lakshman Dass and Gulshan Kumar s/o Tersam.
The aggrieved family which was living in Mashian-de-Kothe village was worst affected by the Pakistani firing. The village was situated along the International Border (IB), forcing thousands of people to flee their homes.
Then Chief Minister Omar Abdullah accompanied by state Minister Ajay Sadhotra, state BJP chief and MP Jugal Kishore Sharma and then MLA Ashwani Kumar, besides top officials of the region, reached at the cremation ground to offer condolences and assured them full support on behalf of the government by paying ex-gratia relief and providing jobs to the next of the kin of the deceased.
BJP , which was in opposition at that time , also raised demand for ex-gratia relief of Rs 10 lakh each to the next of the kin of those killed and Rs 2 lakh each to the injured.
The party also demanded permanent government jobs and plots for those who suffered due to the firing from across the border. "We demand ex-gratia relief of Rs 10 lakh to next kin of deceased killed due to shelling and Rs 2 lakh to each injured," BJP state vice-president Ramesh Arora had said .
But the tall claims fell flat. Even after attaining power, those who shouted at top of their voices have suddenly gone dumb.
When contacted Divisional Commissioner Jammu Pawan Kotwal said, " I will call t the Deputy Commissioner Jammu to take the access of the process of the relief, adding, for the purpose the victim family should also contact the DC concerned".
Meanwhile, repeated phone calls to contact to the DC Jammu Ajit Sahu went unresponded.
