Early Times Report Jammu, May 11:In a somber function, held here today, the media persons from print as well as electronic media gathered to pay tributes to Ashok Sodhi, senior photo-journalist on his seventh death anniversary, who fell prey to the bullets of militants during Samba encounter in 2008 while performing his professional duties. The Press Club of Jammu, this morning organised a memorial function to pay homage to the late Sodhi in which journalists from electronic and print media lightened candles besides offering floral tributes to late soul. Speaking on the occasion, President Press Club of Jammu, Ashwani Kumar remembered his association with the late Sodhi and termed him as a professional man. President Press Club Jammu said that Sodhi was not only known for his professionalism but also his participation in social activities besides getting always ready to help the needy. Secretary General, Press Club of Jammu, Zorawar Singh Jamwal, also spoke on the occasion and also precaution the working journalists not to cross the line and to be alert while performing their professional duties. Later the journalists observed two minutes silence and prayed the eternal peace to the late soul. Among other office bearers of Press Club Jammu who offered their homage to late soul included Abhimanyu Sharma (vice president), Dinesh Manhotra (Treasurer), members of executive committee and senior journalists, Manu Srivatsa (Ex-President, PCJ), Sanjit Khajuria, Sanjeev Pargal, Pradeep Dutta, R S Gill, Zaffar Choudhary, Rajneesh Parihan, Ravi Khajuria, Channi Anand, Shashikant Sapolia, Vijay Gupta, Nitin Kanotra, Sameer Bhat, Amarjit Singh, Inderjeet Singh, Raman Raina, Shahnawaz Khan, Ejaz Khan, Ravinder Srivastva, Sham Sunder and young working journalists. Meanwhile in a similar occasion held at K L Sehgal Hall of J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, the members from media fraternity and prominent citizens paid tributes to late soul Ashok Sodhi. Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Sojanya Sharma was the chief guest at the occasion. A two minutes silence was also observed by the members of the media fraternity while paying rich tributes. Sojanya Sharma remembered the contribution of Sodhi towards the field of journalism and said that by sacrificing his life in the line of duty Ashok Sodhi had inspired his juniors to never compromise with their work. |
