Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 11 : Yogendra Yadav, who was expelled by Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) last month on the charge of anti-party activities, was here in Jammu on Sunday to find if he could set up a branch of his new outfit in the state. He also addressed a press conference. He said many things, which were highly controversial and suggested that he knew nothing about the J&K issue, Article 370 and the aspirations of the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. Actually, he went by what his contacts in Jammu like ID Khajuria, who has close links with Kashmiri separatists, told him. It appears. Khajuria had worked with RP Saraf for decades and he is also known among the dreaded Naxals. Yadav, who lives in the company of controversial prashant Bhushan, made a fool of himself when he claimed that J&K was not the only state that enjoys separate political and constitutional status and he wrongly equated J&K with many other states of the country. Bhushan advocates plebiscite in J&K. Opposing the critics of Article 370, Yadav, among other things, said: "This article (370) is not of separatists, it is a part of Indian constitution, so it should be implemented in true spirit. I believe that Article 370 has been exploited very badly by some political parties. Some claimed to abrogate it, while others ran for its defense, when the Indian constitution itself defends the very sanctity of the Article. It was drafted by the great minds of that time and keeping special status for some states was the need of the hour at that time, which lingers till date. J&K is not only state in India with a special status. We have Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura and Uttarakhand which have special provision, but it is out of my comprehension why politicians rake up abrogating only Article 370, which is protected by the Constitution of India itself". That he equated J&K with Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura and Uttarakhand only proved how blissfully ignorant is he. None of these states, barring J&K, has a separate constitution and a separate flag. These states are governed under the Indian Constitution. All the laws enacted by the Parliament are automatically applicable to all the states and the Union territories, barring J&K. Yadav needs to study the constitutional position of J&K vis-à-vis Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura and Uttarakhand before making such foolish statements. But more than that, Jammu people don't need Yadav and others of his ilk whose political agenda is subversive in nature and character. |
