Saahil Suhail Early Times Report Anantnag, May 11: Two CRPF troopers, including an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), were killed in a militant attack in Sangam area of Anantnag district on Jammu-Srinagar Highway on Monday, police said. According to police sources, the unidentified militants attacked a CRPF patrolling party at Hatmulla in Sangam area, this afternoon triggering a fierce gun battle. "Two CRPF troopers were killed in the militant attack," a police official on anonymity said. He said that the deceased have been identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Omkar Singh and Constable Tilak Raj, he added. Soon after the attack, deceased CRPF troopers were immediately rushed to Sub- district hospital Bijbehara, however doctors declared them brought dead. "Militants also snatched service rifle of Assistant Sub-Inspector Omkar Singh," Police sources said while adding, "forces have cordoned off the area and launched an operation to track down the militants." Police officer said that forces have also intensified search operations and frisking of vehicles on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway. Meanwhile DIG South Kashmir however evaded to comment over the incident. "Right now I am in a meeting," he briefly said and dropped call. Here it needs to mention here that barely an hour ago of the incident, SSP Anantnag Abdul Jabbar called on Governor N N Vohra and briefed him about the situation. The Governor, according to Raj Bhawan spokesman advised the officer to ensure effective maintenance of law and order during the yatra alongside facilitation of the pilgrims Inspector General of CRPF, Atul Karwal, along with his counterpart from the Border Security Force (BSF) Dr. Jagat Singh too had meeting with Governor N N vohra before this bloody militant attack. |
