PDP seniors angry on Beg's appointment as chief spokesperson

Early Times Report

srinagar, May 11: Differences in People's Democratic Party (PDP) have once again come to fore. Senior and old time leadership is disturbed and annoyed over the appointment of Mehboob Beigh as chief spokesperson of the party.
"Beigh has been highly critical of the PDP and had even used abusive language against the party leadership and also mocked at the Mufti Sayed.
How can he now defend the party? "The NC will miss no chance to eidicule him," said a senior leader of the PDP, wishing not to be named.
The PDP senior leadership especially party president Mehbooba Mufti had consistently blamed late Mirza Afzal Beigh, father of Mehboob Beigh, along with Abdullah family for the present political crisis of the State.
"She would name him (Mirza Beigh by saying people who would wave green flag and keeping salt (Namak) to seek vote can't tell us about politics especially morality in the politics. Now, how can the party keep such a person, who is his son, in the party and ask him to defend the party position," said the senior leader.
The decision is potent of being backfired as former chief minister has mocked at Mehboob Beigh when he joined the PDP.
"Mehboob is all out political opportunist and this doesn't behoove well for the party who has all along being saying it's credibility of the party and person which matter most," said as senior PDP minister, wishing not be named.
The crisis has come just a few days after PDP president Peerzada Mansoor as her political advisor and also a interface between the party and the government. The sources said that Peerzada was appointed after two senior PDP ministers not only contradicting each other on major policy decision but also refused to attend the cabinet meeting in the presence of each other.
The political leadership of the party which is with it since its inception feels that new comers and those who made lateral entry in the party are getting primes position.
"People who are articulate, but opportunist, can speak in English and debate, but doesn't have any believe in the ideology of the party are being given prime position both in the party and ministry. If this process is not checked, then it could spell trouble for the party in the coming times, especially when both NC and Srinagar are trying to build and revive its cadre in the valley," said a Senior PDP minister.
