Machhedi inhabitants resent 'poor road' connectivity, stage protest | | | Machhedi (Kathua) June 23: Inhabitants of the Machhedi and its adjoining villages resenting the poor road connectivity today took to roads and staged a strong protest against State Government and District administration while demanding black topping on 40 km road from Machhedi to Billawar which is a long pending demand of people. Khushi Ram, Sarpanch Machhedi Panchayat who led the protest while addressing the protestors said that previous government has intentionally ignored their sufferings as their area falls under Bani constituency may be due to some political reasons. He said people raised the issues to Bani and Billawer MLAs (as the area is better approachable from Billawer) but nothing was done in this regard. Sarpanch said people approach Billawar for administrative and other day to day works but poor road connectivity consumes their much of time. He alleged that time and again politicians of the area have made several promises especially during election campaigns but forget all after winning the elections. Tafeer Mohd an elderly person of village among protesters said bad road connectivity also affects the punctuality of government employees who are deployed here in different departments. He also lamented that private cabs are minting money during emergencies whenever patients are to be shifted to Sub-District Hospital Billawar or Distt Hospital (DH) Kathua . A Government employee on anonymity briefly hummed the similar tunes and said that government must take some corrective steps including to promote tourism in the area as landscapes of Machhedi could boast of natural beauty and can make it a tourist hub. Suresh Kumar, Mohan Lal, Mushtaq Ahmad and many others addressed protesters and demanded road connectivity with immediate effect.
