BJP MLAs say review agenda of alliance, Madhav says implement it | Genuine concern | | ET Report Jammu, June 23: No one had expected that the BJP MLAs would muster courage to air their opposition to the "pernicious" agenda of alliance in the presence of its architect Ram Madhav, party national general secretary and in-charge J&K, but very surprisingly it happened on Monday, when the RSS ideologue held meetings with party ministers, MLAs and party office-bearers in Jammu. They reportedly did muster courage and condemned the agenda of alliance. They condemned the agenda of alliance in the manner the outraged nationalist camp in J&K had been condemning it ever since it was made public in Jammu on March 1 and demanded its review. The BJP MLAs, as per many insiders, not just condemned the conduct of the party ministers and accused them of playing a "second-fiddle" to the PDP, but also took to task Ram Madhav for handing over all the "crucial" departments to the alliance partner. They expressed the view that if the party ministers continued to behave in the manner they had conducted themselves after the formation of the coalition government in the state and the agenda of alliance was not reviewed, the party would suffer huge losses in Jammu region and they would not be able to show their faces to the people. Their refrain was that the agenda of alliance had harmed the interests of Jammu and country and the BJP ministers had failed them, failed the party and failed the people of Jammu region by their utterly irresponsible conduct. They, according to insiders, also lambasted the framers of the agenda of alliance and charged them with playing with the sentiments of its core constituency in the state (in this case Jammu region from where the party won 25 seats) and also disapproved the decision of the party high command to shift the sanctioned AIIMS for Jammu from Jammu to Kashmir. The party will pay a very heavy price if the party high command refused to appreciate the sentiments of Jammu and insist on establishment of AIIMS in Kashmir. They in one voice, according to sources, demanded establishment of AIIMS in Jammu. Significantly, Ram Madhav did, according to insiders, express dissatisfaction over the working of the BJP ministers and advise them to work in tandem with the party legislators, but he didn't appreciate the view that the agenda of alliance needed to be reviewed. On the contrary, he, according to many insiders, advised the party legislators and office-bearers to help facilitate the implementation of the agenda of alliance. Ram Madhav has been defending the indefensible ever since the agenda of alliance was released to the press in Jammu. He defended it at Bengaluru during the national executive meeting and he defended it during the interviews which he gave to some leading national dailies and leading news channels. He has repeatedly said that had he not endorsed the agenda of alliance, which was virtually the carbon-copy of the alliance partner's election manifesto, he would not have been in a position to break what he called "the jinx" in the Muslim-majority J&K State. He continues to refuse to accept the damage he has caused to Jammu, to the state and to the country as a whole by endorsing the agenda of alliance. Now that the BJP MLAs have opposed the agenda of alliance, it is time for them to convince the party high command in Delhi so that it is rejected. They should come out in the public and say what they said in the closed door meeting on Monday. They must ensure the collapse of the agenda of alliance at the earliest failing which their party would become a story of the past. J&K will become BJP-free in case the agenda of alliance was implemented in its original form, they must remember. They should not allow Ram Madhav to dictate terms for reasons not really difficult to fathom. |
