BJP leaders, ministers skip Dr Mookerjee's Balidan Diwas function | | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 23: The ministers and senior leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday skipped the Balidan Diwas function, which was organized to mark the martyrdom anniversary of Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder Dr Shyama Prasad Mookherji , who sacrificed his life in Jammu in 1952 to break the permit system and for total integration of J&K with rest of country. Though senior BJP leaders, including Party national general secretary, Ram Madhav and its national vice president Avinash Rai Khanna were in Jammu the duo failed to attend the programme organized by the district BJP here today. The BJP ministers who were yesterday in Jammu along with Madhav and Khanna to participate in Party meetings in connection with completion of 100 days of coalition in office skipped the meeting and did not bother to remember this great leader of the country who scripted a new chapter in JK history by laying down his life. But the BJP leaders who tasted the power in the State due to the supreme sacrifices of Dr Mookerjee over 60 years ago did not even bother to remember him on his martyrdom anniversary. They only remember him in public speeches highlighting his sacrifices and claiming that BJP deserves peoples support and vote for its long struggle for the nationalist people in Jammu. But after tasting the fruits of power party ministers have failed to remember him on his martyrdom anniversary. The people had expected that then party would organize a grand programme in which various national leaders would participate to pay tributes to Dr Mookerjee and salute him as the dream seen by him for J&K came true after 60 years. The BJP instead organizing a State level function on the day to send a clear message among the separatists that J&K's integration with union of India is final and the same is linked to the sacrifices of Dr Mookerjee, the party deliberately kept the programme a low key affair. This has even annoyed staunch party activists in the State who have also raised a finger on the style of functioning by the Party. Dr Mookerjee according to them a great national hero deserves place among those martyrs who laid down their lives for nation during freedom struggle of the country. Had he not taken a stand along with the great leader of Jammu Pt. Prem Nath Dogra the permit system would have prevailed in the State and there would have been no jurisdiction of Supreme Court, Election Commission of India today and J&K would have been a country within a country which would have at the occasions led to constitutional crisis. To rid the people of the State of the same this great visionary took an onus to himself and led a movement to break the permit system. His sacrifice paid dividends and Jan Sangh which was rechristened as BJP in eighties reached to seat of power not in Delhi but in the sensitive State of J&K for which the leadership should be indebted to sacrifices and struggle of Dr Mookerjee feel the partymen. |
