Mob torches Beacon vehicle in Kulgam | | | Saahil Suhail Early Times Report
Kulgam, June 23: Locals protesting against the civilian killing torched a Beacon vehicle on Srinagar-Jammu highway near Wanpoh in Khudwani area of Kulgam in south Kashmir. Reports said that at around 17:10 Pm, a mob stopped Beacon vehicle at Wanpoh after noticing Army uniform in the vehicle. "It was the army uniform which attracted the attention of locals ," a BEACON official said. He said that protesters torched the vehicle and thrashed employees on board. "Vehicle was torched and our four employees were thrashed, however were later set free by the protesters," confirming the incident, Beacon official identifying himself as Vijay said. He said that all the employees are safe and have reported back to their office in Verinag. "All of them are safe and have reached Verinag," he said, adding Vehicle was on way to Verinag from Srinagar. On second consecutive day, protests against the civilian killing continued with violent clashes between government forces and youth. Reports said that besides Beacon vehicle angry mob damaged other vehicles that were playing on the highway and interior roads. A complete shutdown was also observed in the area against the killing of Asif Ahmad Tantary. 23 old, Asif according to police received a stray fire during gun battle in the area and succumbed to his injuries, however family of the youth has rejected the police claim, saying Asif was targeted and killed when he was on way to Masjid in the morning. Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Syed has already assured a fair probe into the killing in yesterday's District Development Board meeting after National conference legislator Abdul Majeed Larmi protested against the killing. Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, R K Bhat on the directions of Chief Minister has also ordered magisterial enquiry into the killing. |
