NEW DELHI, Aug 11: Calling upon the members of AASU to play a constructive role for the growth and development of the region, Union Minister of State in PMO Dr Jitendra Singh said youth are important stakeholders and therefore any developmental activity has a direct bearing on the welfare of the youth of the region. Addressing a seminar organized by AASU here today Dr Jitendra Singh disclosed that as per the parameters laid down, the State of Assam is likely to get substantial funding in the current financial year and hoped that the amount would be utilized optimally and to its full capacity. An important problem confronting the Northeast is exodus of youth, partly in search of employment and partly for higher education, observed Dr Singh and said that youth groups like AASU also owe the responsibility of acting as a pressure group to exercise the necessary checks and balances, as and when required. Responding to observations made by the AASU leaders on the occasion of 30 years of the Assam Accord, Dr Singh said, it is true that certain issues like infiltration by foreigners, illegal settlers, etc., have been raised from time to time and for this, he called upon AASU and other such activist groups to come forward with a roadmap or a draft paper spelling out a long term solution which would be to the benefit of all and acceptable to all. |
