GCW students sell samosas, aprons in college | Thanks to Education minister's order | | Mohd IRfan Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 11:The Minister for education Naeem Akhter during his whirlwind tour to the winter capital last month stressed need for establishment of cluster universities. He also ordered establishment of canteen, boutique in the college premises of the GCW Gandhi Nagar. Sources told early times that minister found the canteen in pathetic condition and reprimanded the owner.The minister ousted him. However, he sought judicial intervention and got a stay. The college authorities also refused to run boutique in the campus saying it would vitiate the atmosphere and deviate the women from their studies. A professor said if the minister is interested in such activities, he must hold a workshop and train the women. Startling disclosures revealed that commissioner secretary Higher education ordered the Principal GCW Gandhi Nagar to establish the canteen, boutique in the campus. Reliable sources said that 65 crores RUSA Funds have come from the center to develop skill development courses and Minister Naeem during his visit directed the college authorities to inculcate skill in students so that unemployment among youths would be decreased and they don't depend upon the government jobs and if they have these skills they can generate money. Now that the boutique and canteen has been started, the students have been seen selling samosas and kulchas, aprons etc. "This is not helping the students in any way," said a student. The students and the teachers have requested the minister to revoke the order in the interest of education. |
