Sadhotra making sermons while his party is out of power | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 11: It is easy for NC leader Ajay Sadhotra to give sermons while his party is out of power. He yesterday castigated BJP-PDP government for delaying construction of bridge across Nikki Tawi unmindful of the fact that it was damaged in the September last floods when Omar Abdullah was chief minister. The construction was actually delayed by his government. Due to damage to the Nikki Tawi bridge, at least 45 villages have been cut off from the main road leading to Jammu city. A demand had that time come from locals to immediately repair the damaged portion of the bridge but it was not done by the erstwhile NC-Congress government. A temporary bridge was, however, raised by army but it too was damaged in floods later and rendered unfit for vehicular traffic. Sadhotra's government could have got the work started on the bridge on war-footing soon after it suffered damages because it was the question of linking the cut off villages with the main towns and Jammu city and providing relief to the affected population but it lacked the will. While the fault lies with his own party and its "top" leadership, he yesterday blamed the BJP-PDP government for delaying the construction on the bridge and putting people of 45 villages to "avoidable" inconvenience. He also claimed that the Omar-led government had then sanctioned Rs 20.05 cr for the construction of new bridge. Talking to the protesters near the damaged Nikki Tawi bridge Monday, the NC leader took the credit for raising the temporary bridge notwithstanding the fact that it was actually built by army. This is unbecoming of a politician to take credit for an achievement that actually is the result of someone else's hard work. "While we had raised the temporary bridge on war-footing, the present regime has failed to do so despite an assurance that a temporary bridge would be ready for use by May last but it is nowhere in sight," he said. While his such "misleading' utterances were lauded by a section of protesters owing their allegiance to NC, it remains a fact that he yesterday made an attempt to write army's achievement in the name of his government. This is not expected from a politician of his "stature". Truth is truth and even the most powerful ones cannot suppress it. Sadhotra also criticised the government for not fulfilling its commitment of making a new road linking the fourth Tawi bridge with Doana Morh, Mandal Phalain. "There is no government on the road. The government is least bothered about the problems of the people and it has become habitual of making false promises and announcements," he alleged. It sounds so ridiculous when any one from NC makes such statements. Has the party leadership forgotten that there virtually existed no government on ground when Kashmiris were crying for help during the devastating September deluge? NC paid the price of remaining absent from the flood-hit areas and was defeated badly the post-deluge state polls. The party leadership should learn a lesson from its past blunders and desist from making the statements that can only be termed as irresponsible and aimed at diverting the attention of people from the NC's failures. Let NC leaders correct their ways as this was the only way left for them to infuse a new life in the otherwise demoralised party cadres. |
