Srinagar, Augt 11: The PDP-BJP led government seems to be indecisive about the implementation of the National Food Security Act (NFSA), as the same if executed may hugely decrease the monthly allocation. At present state government allocates 30 to 35 kilogram ration per card per month. But once the NFSA is implemented, the government fears that almost 25-lakh people could not avail ration benefit, sources said. Highly placed sources in Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CA&PD) told Kashmir based news agency, that the state government formed a committee headed by Commissioner Secretary Planning department in this regard in this July. However, the final call on the issue will be taken only after the committee submits its final report to the government. "Central government has set September 30 deadline for all the state governments to implement Food Security Act. As per 2001 census there were seventeen lakh ration card holders, however the same was increased by four lakh after 2011 census," sources said. The problem government faced that time was most of the people complained that they have not been enlisted and the state government directed all the Deputy Commissioners to verify the facts so that same could be included. The total number of people who were not included in the list was 3, 27000 while as the present status after included them in the list is 25, 27000. Sources further said that the government is mulling to introduce new ration cards under different categories viz. BPL, APL and Nomad category and Not for Ration (NR). The NR card will issued to well-off category not to get ration but they could use the same for Passport, Bank account and other works," sources said |
