Kathua, Aug 11: Excise Department today seized 260kgs of banned polythene bags at Minor Toll Post Kharkhara Morh from a Tata Safari car bearing registration no. PB08AL-4701, smuggled in the State. Earlier, during the physical checking of truck bearing registration No.JK09A-2222 loaded with forest products and walnut kernels, it was found that the quantity of different items declared in the enclosed documents was at variance with those physically detected. The truck was on its way from Srinagar to Delhi and as per the accompanying documents, it was loaded with 40 bags (2500 Kgs) of Wirch Metha (Nagshatri), 61 bags (1775 Kgs) of Kakra Singi, 17 bags (445 Kgs) of Kode Kodie, 73 bags (4519 Kgs) of Wowring and 68 boxes (1225 Kgs) of Walnut Kernels. Meanwhile, the vehicle has been referred to the Forest department after realizing necessary penalty under the J&K Levy of Toll Act. In another case, a joint team of Excise & Commercial Taxes apprehended an Alto Car bearing Registration no. JK02X 0118, that crossed the Toll Post Lakhanpur, without clearance. The vehicle was chased and on physical check, it was found to be carrying Readymade Garments in a concealed manner. Penalty/Toll amounting to Rs. 1925 was recovered by the Excise department while an amount of Rs. 70,000 has been recovered by the Commercial Taxes Department on account of security/penalties. |
