JAMMU, Aug 11: Despite being a popular game among young boys and girls, there was hardly any participation from the government institutions of the city in the inter-school under-19 boys' badminton tournament Jammu district held under the banner of Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) at Indoor Complex, MA Stadium, here today.
And, the only four teams reported for the competition represented Army Public School (APS) Nagrota, APS Miran Sahib, BSF Paloura and Model Academy.
Since there were only four schools taking part in the event, semifinals were played directly wherein APS Nagrota and Model Academy emerged winner to compete for the title clash.
In the final, Model Academy trounced APS Nagrota 2-0. The Results: Singles: Raghav bt Tanvir Singh 21-16, 10-21, 21-10. Doubles: Raghav and Parthpal bt the pair of Tanvir and Bhanu 21-12, 21-12.
Earlier, in the first round of semifinals, APS Nagrota defeated BSF Paloura 2-0 and Model Academy trounced APS Nagrota 2-0. This event was officiated by the technical penal comprising Kiran Jyoti, Saroman Dogra, Harcharan Singh, Sanjay Khajuria and Vikram Jamwal.
TENNIS BALL CRICKET: DPS bt Centre Basic HSS by eight wickets; RRL High School bt Model Academy by 13 runs; BSF Paloura bt Lawrance Public School by seven wickets; SRML Higher Secondary School bt St. Peters Jammu by 39 runs.
TAEKWONDO: 46 kg: Aman Gupta of SRML,Ist and Rishav Goswami of Center Basics HSS, 2nd. 50 kg: Rahul of SRML, Ist and Shahrukh of MIER, 2nd. 54 kg: Ankit of SRML, Ist and Javid Iqbal of MIER, 2nd. 58 kg: Gourav of APS Domana, Ist and Karan Chopra of Crescent Public School, 2nd. 62 kg: Sanket Sharma of DBN School, Ist and Sourav Mehra of SM Jain School, 2nd. 66 kg: Gokul Sharma of Model Academy, Ist. 70 kg: Rajan Kumar of MIER, Ist. Above 70 kg: Pranav of MIER, Ist. Taekwondo bouts were officiated by the technical penal including Atul Pagotra, Varinder Sharma and Taruna Khajuria.
