| Talks fail, strike to continue in BGSBU | | Students demand apology from VC, Registrar's resignation | | Early Times Reoprt
Jammu, Aug 20: Marathon meetings by Deputy Commissioner ,SSP separately with students and Vice Chancellor (VC) Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) at university campus to resolve the issues raised by the students, have failed to yield any results till 7 pm on Thursday.
While student have reportedly back tracked from their demand of reconstitution of Special Investigation Team (SIT) ,which may take another 6 months as per SSP, students were rigid on their demand of resignation by the Registrar, apology by the VC for using abusive language with student leaders in his chamber and complete audit of university accounts since 2009 including that of CD-2 and SOD-1 accounts .
Student indefinite strike has entered 12th day today and they held protest demonstration and raised slogans against the university administration.
On Wednesday they made hostage all the non teaching staff/faculty members including VC and Registrar and didn't allow them to leave the university till late night hours.
At about 6 pm on Wednesday Deepati Uppal,DC and Dr Haseeb Mughal,SSP rushed to university and held separate talks with students to resolve all the issues but till wee hours talks went on but without any positive outcome. Engineer Mir Aijaz, president Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University Teacher's Association (BGSBUTA) has also requested the Chief Minister , who is also Chancellor of BGSBU, to intervene in the matter to save the precious time of the students and honor and dignity of the institution from further damage.
While endorsing the demands of the students, BGSBUTA has warned the university authorities to join students in getting the things set right to safe guard the honor and sanctity of BGSBU.
According to Asrar Imityaz, student leader while interacting with the student representatives VC on Wednesday had used abusive language which forced the students to boycott his meeting.
Student have resented long silence of Prof IA Hamal ,VC over scholarship scandal/other financial irregularities and their other demands and said that said that they will not allow any body to go out of the university. Student had also met Naeem Akhter, Education Minister after Independence Day celebrations and had demanded his involvement in sorting out the issues/demands. They also demanding re-audit/complete audit of CD-2 and SOD-1 accounts since 2009 as most of the misappropriation of university funds was committed in these accounts.
Students have also been demanding improvement in infrastructure, curtailing in fee structure, modernization /repairing of hostels, elections of student union on the pattern of Jammu University and clarification that why the security have not been refunded to many students. They also demanding recruitment of staff and faculty as university is being run by contractual. A meeting between Deputy Commissioner, SSP with VC and university administration was held today.They also met with the student representatives but, according to SSP, nothing seems moving. |
