Early Times Report

Srinagar, Aug 20: Minutes after precautionary detention of separatist leaders, former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah spoke in their favour while criticising the government for its conduct.
Omar wrote on micro blogging site, "Shame on Mufti Sayeed for arresting on demand. He had no business other than following his master's orders and detaining the Hurriyat leaders like this."
"If the Centre was so keen to prevent the Hurriyat leaders from meeting Sartaj Aziz, they should have been told to detain themselves," he added. Omar claimed that previous State Governments had never detained any separatist leader "like this" so as to "prevent them from visiting Pak High Commission."
"J&K State Government in the past has never detained the APHC leaders so as to prevent them from visiting the Pak high commission."Omar wrote.
He claimed that India and Pakistan were competing with each other to "sabotage" talks ahead of the scheduled NSA level meeting between the two countries on 23rd of this month and added that "I have never seen an Indo-Pak dialogue where both sides are keen to sabotage it. India and Pak competing to give reasons to call off talks."
He also wrote that "shelling, infiltration, terror attacks & now Hurriyat arrests, clearly no side wants to talk & yet neither side has the guts to call it off."
"It is so obvious that Ufa and now these planned NSA talks are under international pressure with both India and Pakistan hoping the other will put," Omar added.
His comments came minutes after the State Government briefly detained the separatist leaders of Kashmir who were invited by Pakistan Prime Minister's advisor on security and foreign relation, Sartaj Aziz for meeting on Sunday.
Authorities detained several separatist leaders including Hardliner Syed Ali Shah Geelani, moderate separatist Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Maulana Mohammad Abbas Ansari, Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai, Shabir Ahmad Shah and Ayaz Akbar.
Authorities though maintained silence on the reason for the detention of separatist leaders, sources said that authorties wanted to give a message to Pakistan that its engagement with separatists was not welcome.
Reportedly Pakistan High Commission in Delhi has invited Syed Ali Shah Geelani for a meeting on August 24 with Sartaj Aziz, who will be in Delhi for talks with Indian NSA, Ajit Doval and Moderate separatist leaders have also been invited for a reception being hosted by the High Commission in New Delhi for the visiting Pakistani official on August 23.
Hardliner Syed Ali Shah Geelani refused to attend Eid Milan Party of Pakistan High commissioner to India when separatist leaders of other factions attended the said event amid full media glare.
Notably India cancelled Foreign Secretary-level talks with Pakistan in August last year after its envoy invited separatist leaders for consultations ahead of the meeting in Islamabad.
