Minister's PSOs beaten, NH blocked for hours; DC's vehicle tortured, section 144 imposed | Samba tense after alleged sacrilegious act | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 20: A day after protest by a particular community over the alleged burning of their religious books in a factory at Bari Brahmana here in Samba, scores of people took to the streets at village Mudui in Samba district leading to ding-dong battles between police and protestors as a result of which the vehicular movement on Jammu-Pathankot road remained disrupted for hours. The situation became tense when PSOs of industries minister Chander Prakash Ganga tried to disperse the protestors who were raising anti-government slogans near the gate of his house on National Highway. As per reports, the protestors gathered outside the residence of Ganga situated along the National Highway which caused traffic chaos. His two PSOs tried to disperse the mob, they were beaten ruthlessly. They were rushed to GMCH for treatment. The protestors later pelted stones at the vehicles standing on National Highway and smashed their window panes. These vehicles included trucks and minibuses. The mob also set a without registration number motorcycle on fire. Soon after getting information, Samba police and administration led by DC Samba Sheetal Nanda rushed to the spot but the mob pelted stone on her vehicle leaving her two more PSOs injured. Sensing trouble, the DC imposed section 144 CrPC. DC Samba Sheetal Nanda, when contacted, said that section 144 had been imposed as a precautionary measure. Later, to disperse the mob, a police team and additional battalions of armed police were deputed. Six persons who received injuries were admitted to the GMCH for treatment. Meanwhile, Addl SP Samba Mohammad Faisal Qureshi said that the situation was under control, adding the mob had been chased away. He said the stranded vehicles were also being given safe passage.
