RCC becomes champion after winning the C'ship | 2nd Edition of Chevrolet Cup Cricket Tournament concludes | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Aug 20: The 2nd Edition of Chevrolet Cup Cricket Tournament 2015 came to its grand finale with Rainawari Cricket Club and Simula Cricket Club playing the final championship match at the Cricket ground of KC Public School. Chaudhary Lal Singh, Minister for Health & Medical Education, Government of J&K, had inaugurated the event on June 19, 2015. The tournament featuring 20 eminent Cricket Clubs of Jammu was played in the T-20 format and was sponsored by KC Motors. More than 40 matches were played to reach the final stage. The concluding function was presided over by Ramesh Mahajan member of working committee JKCA, Ex-working President JKCA and Ex-Chairman JKCA as the Chief Guest while Ankush Abrol was Guest of Honour (member of working committee JKCA and Incharge Jammu Wing JKCA) who watched the final match with avid interest and was impressed with the performance of the finalist teams. The match ended with following results: The final match of the day was played between Simula Cricket Club and Rainawari Cricket Club. Simula won the toss and decided to bat first. Batting first Simula put up a score of 104 runs in 19.3 overs. Vivek Thappa and Shashi scored 29 and 27 runs respectively. Aman took 3 wickets and Dilbagh took 4 wickets. In reply, Rainawari chased the target of 105 in 19.5 overs and won the match. Parveen scored 34 runs for his side and Ahmer made 21 runs. Prince took 1 wicket and Mohit took 1 wicket. Rainawari won the match by 3 wickets. Kulvinder Singh and Aman Sharma declared jointly as 'Man of the Match' while Sadiq Hussain Malik, Farooq Ahmed and Rajinder Singh were the officials of the match. Parveen Singh, Kulvinder Singh and Aman Sharma outshined in thrashing the Simula. Westside Coupons worth Rs.500/- were presented to the winners of 'Man of the Match' title. Prizes in the tournament are sponsored by KC Motors, Narwal, Jammu. After the final match, the Chief Guest gave away the Championship trophy to the winning team and also distributed cash prizes to the winning and runner up teams of Rs 40000 and 20000 respectively and other awards to the players and officials of the tournament. In his valedictory speech, he congratulated the champion team and put in a word of appreciation for KC Motors for playing a stellar role in promoting sports among the youth of Jammu & Kashmir. After the function, the Chief Guest was escorted to KC Sports Club and given an intensive tour of the indoor sporting facilities within the Club. Starting from the spacious Gym fitted with state-of-the-art equipment imported from the US and a rock-climbing wall on the ground floor, he then moved on to view the indoor Swimming Pool on the same floor. He also had a look at the two multi-purpose halls on the ground floor used for various activities such as Table Tennis, Martial Arts, Gymnastics, Aerobics, Yoga, Creative Dancing and Theatre. Finally he was taken to the vast indoor Cricket Hall on the first floor. The double height hall which is spread over an area of about 16,000 square feet, is furnished with world class synthetic flooring imported from New Zealand. It has 9 batting and bowling tracks suitable for both pace and spin bowling. A Bola automatic bowling machine is also installed in the hall for solo batting practice. The hall is also fitted with ideal lighting to facilitate day and night Cricket. Training to the young cricketers is imparted in collaboration with Yuvraj Centre of Excellence and indoor Cricket matches are played on regular basis. The Chief Guest was deeply impressed with the facilities offered by the Club and expressed the view that the youth of J&K was fortunate to have a world class indoor sporting complex at its doorstep that should play a vital role in making them realize their dreams of excellence in the field of games and sports. |
