ACC warns BJP, govt against any betrayal on AIIMS issue | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 20: AIIMS Coordination committee (ACC) has rejected the claims and assertions of BJP that the resumption of work by Bar Association Jammu is a vindication of BJP's stand. Instead, it ridiculed BJP and made it clear that in fact, BJP had justified the struggle of people of Jammu spearheaded by ACC to achieve what BJP bartered away for the "petty gains" and "lust for power". Addressing a joint press conference here today, ACC chairman and bar president Abhinav Sharma, ex-sessions judge Pavittar Singh, K B Jandial, Inderjeet Khajuria, Naryan Singh, M S Katoch, Avinash Bakshi and M L Sharma cleared that nothing less than issuance of notification for AIIMS in Jammu would be accepted by the people of Jammu province. They warned BJP against any betrayal on this issue and cautioned it against hoodwinking and confusing the people of Jammu region and instead fulfil its commitment of setting up separate AIIMS in Jammu. ACC leaders conveyed their sincere thanks to the presidents of all Districts and Muffassil Bar Associations, traders, transporters and other social organisations who stood by ACC in its struggle for the establishment of separate AIIMS in Jammu. They assured that the dignity of Jammu shall be maintained at all costs and no force of whatsoever strength shall be allowed to play with people's aspirations. The ACC made it clear that the people of Jammu would not rest unless AIIMS is established in Jammu and it should be reflected in any notification or order issued by Government of India under the amended AIIMS Act about its location in Jammu, especially along with Kashmir. ACC appealed to the public and all its constituents to wait and watch till its logical conclusion and remain united to fight for the cause. Giving a detailed account of agitation since ACC came into existence and its fight for the cause, till date, the ACC leaders informed that as per the budget address by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on the floor of Parliament on February 28, 2015, AIIMS for J&K was to be established in Jammu. Minister of State in PMO, Dr Jatindra Singh congratulated the union health minister for granting AIIMS in Jammu right in the parliament. In a public rally at Kathua, Dr Singh had greeted people for sanction of AIIMS in Jammu. But the agenda of alliance in formation of coalition surprised every Jammuite when it was made public that BJP has surrendered AIIMS to Kashmir which was announced for Jammu simply for lust of power. Later on in a press conference Chief Minister Mufti Mohd Sayeed disclosed that AIIMS is meant for Kashmir and that the Tawi Artificial lake project is not feasible. Dy CM Dr Nirmal Singh was also present in that press conference. The people of Jammu region felt offended when in a press statement Dy CM said that nobody can snatch AIIMS from Kashmir. It was a hot blow on the face of Jammuites and after calibrating the issue amongst civil society, the Bar Association Jammu, Chamber of Commerce & Industries and various other organisations unanimously decided in a meeting held on 21-05-2015 form AIIMS Coordination Committee under the Chairmanship of Abhinav Sharma President Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association, Jammu. Prior to it the Chamber of Commerce and Industry had given Jammu bandh call on 24th April 2015 which was a success. The ACC leadership reiterated its stand that nothing less than issuance of notification for establishment of separate AIIMS in Jammu would be acceptable to the people of Jammu. They cautioned the PDP-BJP coalition of dire consequences if establishment of AIIMS in Jammu was further delayed. |
