Basohli, Aug 20: Fifty- year-old SDH Basohli building has turned into a shelter for stray animals. The building was abandoned lying a year ago in the newly constructed building. The vacated building, comprising 30 big and small rooms with the floor and half of the walls covered with glazed tiles worth lacs of rupees is abandoned by the health department to rot.
The building has turned into a shelter for stray animals of the town.
The vacated hospital building, which housed the Primary Health centre and later on SDH, was constructed in the year 1956 in the premiership of Bakshi Gulam Mohammad. The building underwent many changes from time to time in order to accommodate the new sections of the hospital. The hospital, being situated in the heart of the town was approachable not only to the natives but also for the patients coming fom Bani, Mahanpur and from across the river. The people could bring their patients even in the emergency. Due to the political rivalries the new hospital Building took more than ten years for its completion.
The SDH functioning in the old building was shifted to the new complex in the middle of 2014 and later on it was formally inaugurated on 12/3/15. Since then the abandoned smart beautiful building was left at its fate which consequently became a shelter for the stray animals of the town and a gambling den.
The building gives a deserted look with urine and the dung of the animals littered all over.
The natives, many times approached the concerned director and the minister to retain some of the important sections of the hospital in the old building so that they could get easy and speedy medical treatment.
It is the demand of the natives and those of living in the nearby village to retain gynaecological, dispensing, emergency services, ortho and ophthalmic sections in one of the portion of the spacious complex and the rest of the portion be utilized by the ISM dispensary functioning in the rented building. An ambulance at the building turn add to the efficiency of the complex.
The Model Middle School Basohli is shuttling from one to another building in order to get spacious accommodation catering to the need of the school. Therefore it is also suggested that the whole MMS be shifted in the building so that the vacated building can be put to the proper use which can consequently arrest its further deterioration.
