| JU's Deptt of Urdu to organize seminar on Bedi, Chughtai | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 12: In connection with the centenary celebrations of two reputed Urdu short story writers Rajinder Singh Bedi and Ismat Chughtai, the Department of Urdu, University of Jammu (JU) is organizing a one day national seminar on Ismat Chughtai at Prof Gian Chand Jain Seminar Hall of the department of Urdu University of Jammu on September 14.
The seminar will be presided by noted Urdu short story writer Khalid Hussain while well known historian and poet Aseer Kishtwari will grace the occasion as Guest of honour.
Prof Khwaja Ekram of Jawahar Lal Nehru University, Dr Reyaz Ahmed and Asif Malik will act as resource persons of the seminar.
This was informed by HOD Urdu Prof Shohab Inayat Malik. He said that Urdu world is celebrating the century celebration of two towering short story writers Bedi and Ismat, Deptt of Urdu too have started to organize different literary functions in memory of Rajinder Singh Bedi and Ismat Chughtai.
Prof Shohab Said that Ismat was a towering progressive short story writer who projected the problems of Muslim women in her short stories. She was a bold writer. Being a women Ismat had a great experience of various problems of women life therefore she projected these problems in a better way. She was contemporary of Bedi, Sadat Hassan Mantoo and Krishan Chander. She was different from her contemporaries in the sense that she had a unique writing style. |
