Silence of RSS, Ram Madhav intriguing | Jazya on pilgrimage | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 12: Devotees of Mata Vaishno Devi, cutting across party lines, and parties like the Congress, the NC, the Panthers Party, besides a number of social and religious groups, have been urging since many days now the PDP-BJP coalition Government to rescind its September 2 decision that imposed "Jazya tax" on heli-tickets on Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrimage, but with no result. Contrarily, the Finance Minister, Haseeb Drabu, has made a number of statements, which instead of assuaging the hurt religious feelings of the Hindu community, have further outraged them. He has flatly refused to do away with the "Jazya Tax". As far as the local BJP leadership is concerned, it has simply taken recourse to lip service. All of its statements have turned out to be hollow and misleading. As a result, the estranged and aggrieved people have been accusing the BJP of being hand-in-glove with the party that is in the driving seat. They have come to believe that it would be foolish to pin faith in the "unscrupulous" BJP and that the "BJP is no more the party they voted for blindly". However, what has been more striking is the stoic silence of the RSS and the BJP national general secretary, Ram Madhav, who was also the RSS' spokesperson till not so-long-ago. The RSS had repeatedly commended the working of the coalition Government. Perhaps, it still holds the same view. That's the reason the RSS has allowed the coalition Government to ride roughshod and play with the religious sentiments of the Hindus, who constitute the second largest majority community in the region after Kashmiri Muslims. Not a single RSS leader of any standing till date has opened his mouth to condemn the decision and its silence has only emboldened its critics to ridicule it by dismissing it as a "pseudo-cultural and pseudo-nationalist and pseudo Hindu" organization. This could be described as a sharpest attack on the RSS. "The RSS is as power hungry as the BJP" and "it would be dangerous to depend upon it" has been the general view in Jammu region. There is another section which says that the "RSS is ideologically bankrupt", that "it doesn't have a single person who understands things or who can articulate the views of the nationalist constituency in the state" and that "its leaders have been playing power games in the state to ensure the induction of their men and women in the Government-run institutions". Similarly, Ram Madhav, one of the main architects of the agenda of alliance, has not spoken a word on the issue that has shocked the people of Jammu region. Perhaps, he has been directed by the BJP high command and persons at the helm of affairs in the RSS not to open his mouth. Perhaps, his only duty was to "break the jinx" in the Muslim-majority Jammu & Kashmir by bartering the paramount national interests and the interests of the Hindus. After breaking the jinx, he has gone underground knowing it full well that the people of Jammu region have turned against him, as they blame him for what is being done to them by the coalition Government in the state. The conduct of the RSS and Ram Madhav, according to an overwhelming majority of population in Jammu region, "is irresponsible". So much so, this majority has charged the RSS and Ram Madhav with "playing a fraud on them". It is difficult to say if the RSS and Ram Madhav would intervene to make the coalition Government to respect the sentiments of the Hindu community. For, they are, it appears, under the "baneful influence of certain evil forces". The people of Jammu region have to take care of their own interests, as the RSS and the BJP have abandoned them to placate the anti-Jammu forces in the Valley. |
