Jammu, not Kashmir an example of peaceful co-existence | Omar, Tarigami withholding truth | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 12: Rattled by the demand in Jammu for the state's trifurcation and in Ladakh for Union territory status, National Conference working president Omar Abdullah and CPI-M leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami have unlashed a misinformation campaign to give the people understand that Kashmir, like Jammu and Ladakh, is an example of peaceful co-existence. Their whole objective is to ensure that the State of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh remained intact and Kashmir continued to exploit Jammu region and Ladakh and ill-treat the people of these two regions as before. In other words, they wish to perpetuate for an indefinite period the domination and hegemony of Kashmir and Kashmiri people over Jammu and Ladakh and their patriotic and liberal-minded people. "Jammu and Kashmir has been an example of peaceful co-existence between people of diverse religions, languages and regions and that example will have to be protected at all costs," Omar Abdullah said at Leh the other day, and added that the "National Conference is the only political binding force between Kashmir, Jammu and Ladakh". He also declared that the National Conference would fight against "divisive forces" (in this case not the Kashmiri separatists but those in Jammu and Ladakh who seek their segregation from the intolerant and dictatorial Kashmir) to protect the integrity and harmony of the State. He also brazenly claimed that the National Conference has a "glorious history in all three regions of the State and stated that "as the State is now in dire need of a unifying political bond, National Conference will rise to the occasion and come forward as a single-majority political party that has strong representation in all the three regions". Omar Abdullah did not say that the National Conference was defeated both in Jammu region and Ladakh in the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in 2014 and that his party was decimated in 33 out of 37 Assembly constituencies in Jammu region. The National Conference is not a bridge between Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. In fact, Jammu and Ladakh don't need any bridge as they themselves constitute distinct and independent entities independent of Kashmir. As for Tarigami, he on Thursday said: "The ethos and glorious traditions of communal harmony and plurality of the people of Jammu and Kashmir have to be strengthened and any attempt to disturb this peaceful co-existence, if not foiled, will prove detrimental for the entire country. The division of Jammu and Kashmir on regional and communal lines is an unfinished agenda of RSS and any such formula amounts to disregarding the historical ethos of people. In fact, it has, and will remain, an asset for the people of Jammu and Kashmir residing in different regions and having different faiths". Both Omar Abdullah and Tarigami withheld the truth: The fanatics in Kashmir have rid the Valley of almost all non-believers and converted Kashmir into a one-community region. The people of Jammu and Ladakh are conspicuous by their absence in Kashmir. In fact, none from these two regions wants to visit Kashmir because the atmosphere there is quite hostile. Again, that the displaced Kashmiri Hindus and Sikhs have said no to the proposal on their return to their original homeland should call the bluff of Omar Abdullah and Tarigami and also establish that their whole approach is communally motivated and designed to enslave the people of Jammu and Ladakh, which is not going to happen. They should remember that it is Jammu, and not Kashmir, which is a shining example of peaceful co-existence. Can they deny the fact that more than 1.5 million refugees from Pakistan, PoK and Kashmir Valley have been living in Jammu since decades and leading a peaceful and secured life? Gone are the days when they would succeed in misleading the nation and hide the truth from the nation. Let the likes of Omar Abdullah and Tarigami say what they want to say but the fact remains that the State would remain intact for a long time. The State needs a division and it will happen sooner than later. In fact, it is the likes of Omar Abdullah and Tarigami and fanatics like Syed Ali Shah Geelani and other Pakistani agents in Kashmir who are facilitating the task of the votaries of the State's trifurcation. |
