Lashkar commander gets killed in Kakapora encounter | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Sept 12: Police and security forces achieved a major breakthrough after they killed a top raking militant of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) in the Kakapora village of South Kashmir's Pulwama district today. Police sources said that the slain militant was involved in many attacks on police and security forces. The slain militant was carrying out a bounty of 10 lakh rupees and his killing is being seen as a major achievement by police and security forces in South Kashmir. Reports reaching here said that police and security forces cordoned off Naman Begum Bagh village in Kakapora area after receiving inputs that two to three militants are hiding in the village. As the village was being cordoned off the militants hiding inside fired upon the police and security forces personnel. As the gun fight was going on the militants tried their best to run away but one of them got trapped and he was subsequently killed in the brief encounter. The slain militant is a local and is said to be one of the top ranking commanders of LeT. He has been identified as Irshad Ahmad Ganie, a resident of Padgampora-Pulwama. A civilian identified as Sarwar Hussain Dar of Mustafaabad HMT also sustained bullet injuries during the gun fight. "In a major success against militants in South Kashmir, a wanted militant Commander of LeT outfit was killed in an encounter with police and Army in Pulwama District of South Kashmir, today," said a police spokesman. The spokesman said that on a tip off about the presence of militant in Numan-Laribal village of Kakapora area, Pulwama Police along with 50-RR cordoned off the area and started the search operation. The militant, in an attempt to flee from the spot opened fire on the search party, triggering an encounter. "During the encounter, one militant was killed. The slain militant was later identified as Irshad Ahmad Ganie alias Abdullah resident of Padgampora and a close associate of LeT commander Abu Qasim. One AK-56 rifle, two magazines and 59 AK-rounds were recovered from the encounter site. This wanted militant carrying a reward of Rs 10 lakh was involved in number of violent incidents including some attacks on national highway," said the police spokesman. The spokesman said that Irshad was involved in the firing in the main Chowk Awantipora in which two civilians were injured and attack on Silver star Hotel at Nowgam Bypass in which two civilians were killed and another was injured in 2012. He was involved in attack on CRPF at Bypass, Srinagar in which a CRPF personnel was killed and another was injured and attack on army convoy in which eight army personnel were killed and 16 others were injured in 2013. "He was also involved in the attack on BSF convoy at Pampore in which one Assistant Commandant and seven BSF personnel were injured, attack on the BSF near Koil airport in which four BSF personnel were killed. He was also involved in the attack on the police party near Galander in which two police personnel were killed and a civilian was injured, attack on the BSF Gypsy at Pulwama in which two BSF personnel were killed in 2014. He was instrumental in motivating local youth into joining militancy," said the police spokesman. |
