GMC Jammu: Emergency ward's ACs defunct; patients suffer | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 12: Patients admitted to Government Medical College (GMC) and Hospital Jammu have been experiencing suffocating atmosphere in the emergency ward as air conditioners are not functioning for some weeks. Moreover, the lifts of the hospital are not working properly, forcing patients and their attendants to use either stairs or the ramp which is not advisable for many of them. Sources at the hospital told Early Times that though the administration released an amount of Rs 80 lakh to the Mechanical Wing, air conditioners in some parts of the emergency ward are not working properly. "The air conditioners are not cooling properly and the Mechanical Wing has failed to fix the problems permanently," said sources. They said that no efforts are being made by the concerned to make these ACs functional even as patients have been facing lots of inconvenience during these hot days. "The non-serious attitude of the authorities concerned is notwithstanding the fact that there is huge rush of patients in the emergency ward. The patients, who come from far-flung areas for treatment, are the worst suffers because of suffocating atmosphere," said an attendant of a patient. When contacted, principal of GMC Jammu, Dr. Ghanshyam Dev Gupta claimed that the ACs at emergency ward are working. He however admitted that cooling is not up to the mark. "I have directed the concerned people for proper maintenance of the ACs," he said. |
