Has Govt shelved war against corruption?
9/12/2015 11:54:31 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 12: Government not releasing the second list of the corrupt officials has raised many eyebrows and is making people believe that the much hyped war against the corruption has been shelved off.
Sources told Early Times that despite the second list of the corrupt officials being ready nothing is being done to make it public.
"The General Administration Department (GAD) has not received any fresh direction in this regard despite the new Chief Secretary B R Sharma taking over the reins," sources said, adding, "The GAD has put the list in abeyance despite it being ready for the past 2 months."
Insiders revealed that the outgoing Chief Secretary Mohammad Iqbal Khandey was instrumental in delaying action against the deadwood as he had clearly told the Government that he would not sign any such list till he holds the office of the Chief Secretary.
Pertinently, Government had terminated services of 66 officials, including Chief Engineers and KAS officers, by declaring them deadwood earlier tjis year and had announced that second list of corrupt officials would be made public soon. According to the sources, the GAD has prepared a list of around 400 corrupt officers, whose names have been forwarded by the concerned departments for termination of their services. After consultation with the Vigilance Department, GAD is learnt to have shortlisted the names of nearly 100 corrupt officers to seek final approval from the Government to take action against them.
Even as the list was almost finalized around two months ago no further action could be initiated in this regard as the then chief Secretary Iqbal Khandey refused to give his formal nod for the same, sources added.
They claimed that Khandey had reservations over some names which were included in the list of corrupt officers from Kashmir and he did not want to annoy individuals at the fag end of his service tenure.
As Khandey is no more in the top chair, the newly appointed Chief Secretary B R Sharma has not paid any attention towards the issue. "There is no clarity whether the Government wants to terminate services of more corrupt officers or it is just trying to create fear psychosis among the employees," said a senior officer in the Civil Secretariat.
