Jammu, Srinagar share basketball titles Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 12 : Jammu district bagged under-19 title while Srinagar clinched under-17 trophy in the two-day inter-district state level basketball tournament, organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), at MA Stadium, here today. In the under-19 final, Jammu outplayed district Srinagar 31-17. Third place went to district Udhampur, who beat Kupwara. Similarly, in under-17 category, Srinagar district trounced Jammu district to take way the title trophy. In the hardliner, district Udhampur defeated district Samba to finish third. Earlier, in under-19 semifinals, Srinagar beat Kupwara 25-04 and Jammu outplayed district Udhampur 37-25. In under-17 semifinals, Srinagar trounced Samba and Jammu defeated district Udhampur 29-17. In the finals and prize distribution function, District Youth Services and Sports Officer (DYSS), Jammu, Sukhdev Raj was chief guest, who gave away the winners and runners-up trophies. The finals were officiated by the technical penal including Vishal Bharti, Ravi Singh, Amit Kalsi, Vaneet and Rajesh Bandral. A host of Zonal Physical Education Officers (ZPEOs) were among the gathering at Ma Stadium. Earlier, the officials had a tough time to complete two events in a short time of two days. In total 17 matches were played in two age categories of under-19 and under-17 resulting in the finals took place at 2 pm. "Generally, we are left with no other option but to complete the event in given time. In fact, the duration of the tournament, at the state level, is decided at the Directorate level and not at the level of host district, so we are compelled to do it in the prescribed time," pleading not to be quoted, an official of the DYSS said. |
