Ganga's statement notwithstanding, Israr was longest serving SSP of Samba | As Samba distt police chief, he brought cattle smuggling to almost zero level | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 5: BJP leader and industries minister Chander Prakash Ganga must have been compelled by some personal reasons to oppose the appointment of a Muslim officer as SSP, Samba, the fact, however, remains that Israr Khan was the longest serving SSP of the district. Ganga, without specifying the reasons, was alleged to have opposed in the state cabinet meet the appointment of a Muslim SSP in Samba district. He represents Vijaypur Assembly segment which falls in Samba. He most probably would have forgotten that Israr, a Jammu Muslim, was the longest serving SSP of Samba. While he served from November 2010 to December 1, 2013 for a period of 3.1 years, others, except for Raghubir Singh who served for 1.5 years, could not complete even six months. Israr was the seventh SSP of Samba since its creation as a district. Let it be known that Israr's tenure as Samba SSP was termed as the most successful in bringing the cattle smuggling to almost zero level. Multiple night nakas used to be laid by him on the highway and the inner Samba roads to check the movement of cattle smugglers. A total of six habitual cattle smugglers were booked under PSA (public safety act) during his tenure as Samba SSP. The crime rate had also come down and no compromise was made with the quality of police investigations in different criminal cases. A senior police officer said Israr had shown personal interest in working out the six blind murder cases in the district. "In three of these cases, accused have been convicted and sentenced by the court while the remaining three are still in the court," he added. |
