11 CRPF personnel injured in blast at Ikhwan hotel camp | | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Nov 5: Eleven Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel sustained injuries in a blast that took place inside their camp at Ikhwan hotel in the Munawarabad area here. The camp is located hardly two kilometers away from the city centre. Public Relations Officer CRPF, Bhavesh Chaudhary told Early Times that 11 CRPF personnel sustained injuries after some object that was hurled towards them went off near the wall of 82 BN CRPF camp located inside the Ikhwan hotel. The PRO said that the condition of all the injured CRPF personnel is stable. “At around 7:30 PM an object that was thrown towards the CRPF camp at Ikhwan Chowk went off causing injuries to 11 personnel. The blast was a low intensity one and such there were minor injuries. One of the personnel has sustained injuries in his ear while the rest have minor injuries. There is nothing to worry about and all the jawans are out of danger,” said PRO CRPF. Bhavesh said that apparently it seemed that it was not a grenade blast, but a blast caused due to explosion of some other explosive object that was not too intense. He said the object landed near the wall of the camp thus causing injuries to the 11 CRPF personnel. The injured personnel were taken to the SMHS hospital for treatment. Some of the CRPF personnel injured in the attack are R D Kumar, Sitanagar Kumar, Mohammad Arif, R D Rah, Sham Singh, Manoj Kumar, Ram Singh, Ram Narsi, Mohan Singh, Survin Kumar and A Kumar. Meanwhile, reports said that following the blast police and CRPF personnel cordoned off some of the localities in the vicinity of the camp and carried out search operations. However, no arrests have been made so far. The search operations were going on when last reports came in and the situation is tense in the area. Pertinently, the attack comes less than 40 hours before the scheduled arrival of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the state on November 7. Modi will arrive in Srinagar on Saturday and address a public rally at Sher-I-Kashmir Cricket stadium before flying off to Jammu division. In the meantime, militant outfit Hizbul Mujahideen has claimed the responsibility for the attack. In a telephonic statement to some local news gathering agencies, a spokesman of the militant outfit said that at least three CRPF personnel were killed in the attack.
