Cong questions state's accession, says it is a sovereign entity | Indifference of Nirmal, Jugal intriguing | | Early Times Report jammu, Nov 5: J&K CM Mufti Sayeed's stand on Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not gone down well with the separatists and Kashmiri leaders like NC working president Omar Abdullah, JKPCC chief Ghulam Ahmad Mir and CPI-M state secretary, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami. The CM praised the PM for two days and said he was secular and his approach was all inclusive. He also described PM Modi as visionary and described his scheduled visit to J&K historic and path-breaking. However, it is the JKPCC chief who has crossed all the lines. He has not only questioned the accession of the state with India but also claimed that J&K is a sovereign state. "Praising Modi for nothing won't address issues. There is a need for taking measures to maintain the integrity and sovereignty of the state," he has said. Earlier on October 26, he had lambasted those in Jammu who celebrated the accession day as a historic day with enthusiasm and reiterated their commitment to integrating the state fully with India. He behaved like Kashmiri separatists had been behaving since decades. J&K is not a sovereign state. It is one of the states of the Union and its accession with India is full and final. To call J&K a sovereign state would be an act of sedition. Intriguingly, none from the Congress in Jammu province has dared to counter Mir and make common cause with the Indian nation which has been making supreme sacrifices since 1947 to maintain the unity and integrity of India and preserve the country's sovereignty. Besides, not a single Congress leader from Jammu celebrated the accession day, notwithstanding the fact that the Congress leadership from Jammu had criticized the BJP a number of times during the past eight months and dismissed the BJP as "anti-Jammu" and "anti-national" party and claimed that it was committed to national cause in the state. If the silence of the Congress leadership from Jammu is intriguing, the indifferent attitude of BJP leaders, including Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh and J&K BJP president Jugal Kishore Sharma and half a dozen party spokespersons to what Mir and his ilk said on and after October 26 is all the more disturbing. Neither Nirmal Singh, who is number two in the government, and Jugal Kishore, who heads the BJP in the state, has thought it proper to counter Mir. It's not that the BJP leaders do not speak; they do speak occasionally, but on non issues. During the past more than eight months, no BJP leader of any standing has made a significant political statement on the political status of the state and plight of the people of Jammu province. Leave aside a few half-hearted statements they made on the accession day and on some other occasions. That their attitude has undergone a complete change could be seen from the fact that they didn't assert their position and authority to get the accession day declared as a state holiday. It's only natural that the Panthers are doing all that they could to expose the BJP and capture its political space in the region. It's time for the Congress leadership from Jammu, which, like the BJP, has lost its way, to introspect and adopt an approach that strengths their party in the region. They need to distance themselves from Mir and others of his ilk in the party in their own interest and in the interest of the region to which they belong. |
