Early Times Report
Srinagar, Nov 5: At a time when opposition National Conference (NC) leaders are busy with issuing statements against the 'wrongdoings' of ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP), NC leader Ali Mohammad Chraloo alias Sagar, who happens to be the party's general secretary, has been caught on the wrong foot as he has used his influence to favour his daughter who is a government school teacher.
As per information available with Early Times, Sagar's daughter Yasmeen Ali was appointed as a teacher on 19.7.1996 and her first place of posting was the government middle school Shivpora, Srinagar. Few months later on 4.11.1996 Yasmeen was transferred, in violation of the rules, to government girls higher secondary school Sonwar which is located near posh Gupkar road.
And since then, that is for last 19 years, Yasmeen continues to be posted at the Sonwar school and nobody dares to transfer her. This is despite the fact that present government claims to have streamlined the education system by demolishing the notorious 'transfer industry' in the Education Department.
The documents reveal that Yasmeen has shown her present residence as Circuit House, Srinagar. The fact, however, is that she resides at Kursoo, Rajbagh with her family (husband and children). "Just to ensure that Yasmeen is a protected person, Sagar has managed to show the present residence of his daughter as Circuit House. When it was checked with the Circuit House, it was found that Yasmeen never resided there from the last ten years," sources told Early Times.
Sagar's daughter, who is now in Masters grade, was never transferred to any other district, though rules say that teachers are to be transferred out of the home district when they are promoted to Master grade.
Notably, hundreds of teachers are transferred outside their home districts every year when they get promoted as Master. Such teachers continue to throng the Directorate of School Education Kashmir/Jammu for their genuine grievance because majority of them are not sent back to their home district even after 3 to 5 years.
There are many female teachers who have been promoted as Masters in 2011 but they continue to be posted away from their home district. On the other hand so-called VIPs like Sagar's daughter are not even transferred from one school to some other school from last about two decades.
It may be mentioned that political interference in the appointment, posting and transfer of teachers has virtually destroyed the educational system in J&K. This has been even authenticated by Education Minister Naeem Akhtar himself.
Will the Education Minister and Director School Education Kashmir Shah Faesal act against Sagar's daughter? It remains to be seen.
