Khuroo's fate rests on elusive SEC meet | Saviour of hundreds struggles to keep himself afloat | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Dec 2: As the State Executive Council (SEC) headed by Chief Secretary is yet to hold its meeting to decide the fate of Nayeem Ahmad Khuroo, this poor entrepreneur is moving from pillar to post for last more than one year to get justice. If things continue like this nobody would ever come forward to rescue people during the time of disaster. Nayeem, a resident of Naik Bagh Nowgam, Srinagar had emptied his synthetic foam mattress shop and go-down just to ensure people were saved from drowning during the September 2014 floods. In addition of providing foam mattresses to several rescue teams, volunteers and Govt officials, Nayeem also provided as many as 150 wooden planks to different rescue teams and individuals during that disaster. The authorities right from Patwari to Deputy Commissioner have authenticated the fact that Nayeem Ahmad Khuroo the owner of Star Wood Dealers and Nandini Mattresses did a heroic work and lost all his stocks, but the Government is hardly bothered to come to his rescue now . His case was sent to Chief Minister's office by the DC Srinagar and the top officials in CM's office also agreed that he lost everything just to save people. But the final call which is to be taken by State Executive Council (SEC) headed by Chief Secretary is yet to finalize the date of the meeting. Khuroo told Early Times that he was hopeful that SEC meeting would be held in Srinagar, but even after durbar move the said meeting has not been held, he said. Pertinent to mention that Early Times had carried a detailed report about this case in January this year but even after the lapse of 11 months , Nayeem Ahmad Khuroo is yet to be compensated. Some reputed national dailies like Indian Express had highlighted the pathetic condition of Nayeem Ahmad Khuroo some months back in its all the editions on front page, but that also didn't help Khuroo. "I have lost everything, the landlord has thrown me out . My business has collapsed. I sold my motorcycle, and my mothers gold ornaments just to repay the loans etc. I had also not insured my business unit. This would have never happened had I not volunteered myself during those floods. I have nobody to even console. I repent for what I did, Nayeem Khuroo added "I thought Nayeem Khuroo would not only get compensation from Government but a state award as well for his work along with other volunteers, but I feel sad about him " said Mohammad Ayaz a resident of Banhar Wathoora (Budgam) who was one of the volunteers to use Nayeem's mattresses and wooden planks during floods. Nayeem Ahmad Khuroo has once again appealed Education Minister Naeem Akhtar, Chief Secretary and Principal Secretary to CM B B Vyas for their help vis a vis his relief case which is pending for disposal since last 13 months. |
