AIDS glow sign besides Indira Gandhi's statue leaves many fuming
12/3/2015 12:13:54 AM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 2: The AIDS glow- sign at ever busy Indira Chowk which boasts of the life size statue of the late Prime Minister Smt Indira Gandhi has left many members of civil society and Congress activists fuming who believe the place was not 'picked' properly by the concerned department to mark AIDS Day. Pertinently the Health Minister on this AIDS Day i.e. Dec 1 in a fanfare has launched the AIDS Glow sign just below the life size statute of 'Iron lady.' The members of civil society resented the identification of the location as they believe that the sign would have been more significant if it had been placed besides GMCH Jammu or SMGSH or any other square but why here which is stealing the ambience of location dedicated to the former prime minister Indira Gandhi. This initiate from the State Health Department alongwith Jammu Kashmir AIDS Prevention Society (JKPCS) also has made resentment brewing among the Congress activists. Humming similar tunes a staunch Congress activist alleged that it seems the deserter Congress leader in a deliberate bid has picked up this place to make the Congress party to feel the pinch. "Instead of showing respect to the national leader who popularly is known as iron lady of India, The minister concerned has placed a glow sign which has virtually become the source of attraction instead of the statue of the Indira Gandhi. He also added we are not against AIDS day awareness campaign but the authorities concerned should also see that their initiative may not hurt the feelings of the others be a political party or the individual. Another Congress activist also resented the initiative and said this (the AIDS glow sign) should have worked in better way if had installed at Narwal Bus stand where Truckers and transitory population often is seen and are prone to the disease for their dubious sexual behaviors.
