JKPCC chief surrenders, puts ball in high command's court | Veterans loyal to their masters build close rapport with rival camps | | ET Report SRINAGAR, Dec 2: After biting dust in 2014 Assembly elections in the State Congress party is finding it hard to regain its foothold in Jammu and Kashmir. The experiment of the Congress high command to change the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Chief didn't pay any dividends as nothing changed on the ground. Sources told Early Times the new JKPCC Chief after holding public meetings in different parts of the State has ostensibly surrendered as infighting within the Congress leaders has not stopped and nothing seems to have changed. "The JKPCC president after putting in all his efforts has given up and has put the ball in high command's court," they added. Insiders revealed that the JKPCC president after expelling some senior leaders from the party had expected situation to improve hoping that rebels would fall in the line and would refrain from indulging in indiscipline. "Expelling senior leaders has not made any difference. The leg pulling is going on unabated and leaders who are loyal to their masters within the Congress party are not ready to change their loyalties and accept the new JKPCC Chief as their boss," revealed a source. The Congress leaders, according to the sources, are yet to digest that they have lost power and they are sitting in the opposition. "The stature of the defeated Congress leaders is taller than the JKPCC Chief who was appointed with a hope that he would rejuvenate the party cadre in JK," said a source. The Congress leaders, sources said, have anticipated it well in advance that PDP-BJP Government would complete its full term in Jammu and Kashmir. "Instead of taking them on Congress leaders have built close rapport with the PDP and BJP Ministers. A few Congress men have also sought favours from the coalition Ministers and they have been obliged in return," the source added. A senior Congress leader while talking to Early Times said, "There is still long time left for elections. What's the point in going all out against the Government which we know will remain there for six years. JKPCC Chief is a powerful man he has got the backing of party high command. We are not as powerful as our chief that's why we are maintaining a low profile and are trying to maintain good relations with the members of the ruling party. I don't think there is any harm in enjoying cordial relationship with our fellow politicians." Sources revealed that a few former Ministers of Congress party have entered into a secret deal with the ruling party members. "A few former Congress Ministers have been assured that no enquiry would be ordered against them. They have been asked to keep their mouth shut and maintain a low profile," they added. Insiders said the new JKPCC chief has brought the matter into the notice of the Congress high command and has conveyed it between the lines that he has failed to clear the mess. "The new JKPCC chief's attempt to carry everybody along has not worked," sources said, adding, "Party high command has told the JKPCC Chief not to get worked up and remain patient. He has been assured that appropriate action would be taken against those leaders who have become close to rival camps and are damaging the party's cause." |
