ASIs posted as SHOs, Inspectors attached to DPL | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 2: When it comes the turn of posting SHOs in Kathua, ASIs are preferred to Inspectors. Of the total eight police stations, only three have Inspectors as their heads while others are headed by juniors. Sources pointed out that it was unwise from security point of view to post junior officers of the rank of ASIs as SHOs of police stations in the district which "has its large territory with Pakistan". "As police and other security agencies know well that the Pak-based militants have in the past entered Indian territory from the Kathua's Rajbagh and Hiranagar areas, it will not be good to depend on ASIs or other junior officers for the security of border areas of the district," sources said. Surprisingly, Rajbagh and Hiranagar police stations, which have been attacked by the infiltrating militants in the past, are too headed by ASIs (Assistant Sub-Inspectors). While ASI Rachpal Singh is incharge of Rajbagh police station, ASI Bui Dass heads Hiranagar police station. Both the police stations are sensitive and both have juniors as SHOs. The ASI was made incharge of Hiranagar police station after its SHO was some time back removed for not properly maintaining the roznamcha. Basohli police station's incharge is also an ASI. Malhar and Bani police stations too have ASIs as their incharge. Only Kathua, Lakhanpur and Billawar police stations have Inspectors as their SHOs. This is ironical to find that in the hitherto sensitive Kathua district, while Inspectors are attached to the DPL (district police lines), ASIs enjoy with their postings as SHOs. |
