BJP zindabad! Ex-JKLF commander to head saffron party in Amira Kadal | | | Muhammad Mukaram Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Dec 2: Contrary to its ideology, BJP has appointed a former militant commander as its constituency president for Amira Kadal, sparking serious resentment in the party. A former Divisional Commander of the JKLF and one of the survivors of the 1993 Hazratbal siege in which 18 militants were killed and seven foreign militants were arrested, joined BJP in 2005 as a worker and was recently appointed as constituency president, sources in the BJP said. The BJP had recently appointed another former militant as president of one of the sensitive constituencies in the Valley. The appointee is not even owned by his family, but the BJP chose him to take an all-important assignment in the party. "This is an irony that a party claiming to be against the militants are accommodating former militant commanders to shield them," said Avinash Gupta, a BJP activist. Not just this, the militant commander had earlier referred to BJP an 'insect' after the latter's position over Article 370 during Parliamentary elections raked up controversy. The former militant had backed off from election after receiving a mandate to fight them. "The BJP will lose its base in the Valley if it does not stop appointing these black sheep who don't have support on the ground. How will such people help the party," asked a BJP insider. "I wonder if this is the same party that would not waste any time in issuing condemnation against separatists and their supporters for their ideology. It is desperation of the party to set up base in Muslim majority Kashmir valley," the insider said. Meanwhile, sources told Early Times that BJP will 'expel' many of senior Srinagar-based office bearers and also some of the last year's contesting candidates from the party's primary membership following complaints of indiscipline and anti-party activities and also criticizing BJP's alliance with PDP in the State. "Yes, we are receiving several telephone calls from different people against some of the Srinagar-based party leaders for their acts of gross indiscipline and anti-party activities. Therefore, these black sheep will be expelled soon if they don't stop their wrong activities in the office," said a senior BJP leader. |
