Akshay Azad ET Report Jammu, Dec 2: Lawmakers who are supposed to make and protect laws but what could be the fate of area when the lawmaker himself turned into a violator. One such brazen violation of laws, has come to fore from village Lasana of Tehsil Surankote, district Poonch, wherein the school going son of Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Surankote has been holding the post of Lambardar for the last few years together. Sources informed Early Times that the school going son (name withheld) of MLA Surankote Choudhary Mohamamd Akram, who had successfully contested the Surankote Assembly seat on Indian National Congress ticket, has been holding the post of Lambardar of the village Lasana village for the last few years. Sources informed that earlier the brother of MLA Surankote was Lambardar of Lasana but after his death in year 2008, the son of legislator, who was a regular student of a prestigious private school (name of school withheld) who was minor at that time was nominated as Lambardar. According to SRO 363 of 1980 of Revenue department, The Jammu And Kashmir Lambardari Rules, which came into force on July 10, 1980, the Section 3, subsection (i) reads, "A person shall not be qualified to be elected or appointed as Lambardar, if he is under 30 years of age". "But strangely, the school going son of MLA is still not 30 years age, but has been holding the post of Lambardar", sources said. Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) candidate from Surrankote constituency, Mohammad Taj Khan said that it was brazen violation of rules not by any other but by MLA himself. "His son is a regular student of a prestigious private school of Jammu, where almost 100 percent attendance is required. I have been getting the reports of various problems being faced by locals, who are forced to make several rounds of the MLA residence for getting stamp and signature of Lambardar", he said. He further said, "Family of MLA is settled in Jammu. I am very much sure that his son will almost have 100 percent attendance in the private school and you can easily imagine, how people of Lasana have getting their documents attested by Lambardar, who usually remain in Jammu". He further said that a local of area informed that, he had to made several round of MLA's residence and after nearly 15 days' delay, he got stamp of Lambardar on the form. Tehsildar of Surankote Mehmood Reyaz said that he was unaware of the matter but would take appropriate action, only after proper verification. MLA Surankote, Choudhary Mohammad Akram admitted that his son had been holding the post of Lambardar. "Earlier, my brother was Lambardar but after his death, I was Lambardar and when I became MLA, my son became Lambardar", he said. He further said that neither his brother, nor he and even his son have been getting any salary for the work of Lambardar. On being asked, how he managed the work of Lambardar, when he is a regular student of private school, the MLA said that in his absence, he himself was doing the work of Lambardar. |
