Female staffer MC Banihal dies under mysterious circumstances at office | Alleging harassment aggrieved family stages protest, demands probe | | Danish Muzafar Early Times Report
Banihal, Dec 2: Family members staged protest and also demanded probe in alleged harassment at office following the mysterious death of a need based female employee of Municipal Committee (MC) who died in her office at Banihal after consuming some poisonous substance. Police sources said, "The deceased has identified as Nageena Begum w/o Gh Nabi wagay R/o Nagbal Banihal " Alleging that the woman was harassed by an employee following which she took an extreme step, the family members of the deceased placed the body and staged a protest while blocking the every busy Jammu Srinagar Highway for over an hour. Amid slogans against the Municipal Committee Banihal, the protestors demanded justice for the victim. Soon after the reports of protest, the Tehsildar Banihal Arshad Hussian, SDPO Ch Rafiq and SHO Banihal Nazir Ahmed Dar rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the agitating family members. It was the assurance jointly from the Tehsildar Banihal and police officials that the death incident will be probed the protestors lifted their protest. "The deceased Nageena Begum was the lone bread earner of her family and her husband is an handicapped from last some years," police sources said quoting a family member. "As per Sofia daughter of deceased, her mother allegedly was harassed by an employee in her office and today when she asked to release her pending dues for two months again she was harassed by the said accused which forced her mother take this extreme step," sources said. Police sources said, "The woman who consumed the poison at her office was rushed to Emergency Hospital Banihal where she breathed her last." When contacted SDPO Banihal Ch Mohammad Rafiq said that initially police have initiated inquest proceedings under 174 CrPC. He also said the police have questioned the employees of the municipality for investigations. He also assured the aggrieved family if anyone found guilty in this matter will be punished under law. |
