Early Times Report
Kishtwar, Dec 2: In a major security breach, the Doda Police claimed to have recovered a fire arm from the incharge Principal HSS Halran who was arrested for opening fire over land dispute and threatening some the people in Gandoh on yesterday. Meanwhile investigations are on to find the security lapse how a VDC member continued to keep weapon despite joining a government job.
Local sources said that the accused was holding the weapon registered against his name since he was a Village Defense Committee (VDC) member and breaching the norms did not surrender his weapon to police after joining education department.
Sharing details with "Early Times, the sources said, "The Incharge Principal of Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Halaran Rajinder Kumar was a VDC member before his selection as teacher in education department and taking a chance on 'frail security system", he did not bother to return the weapon to police.
"The accused Principal managed his verification necessary for an employee selected by the government against any job before withdrawal of his salary, sources added.
They apprehend that the accused might use his good office in police department for clearing his verification report and at the same time held the weapon which he used to open fire on yesterday when some locals objected construction being undertaken by accused in the school premises.
"The accused opened fire in the air which created panic in the area, sources said adding, "after hearing the gun shots, police also rushed to the spot and arrested the Principal immediately alongwith weapon."
However surprising revelations came to fore during investigations as the weapon used in offence stands registered against name of Rajinder Singh as VDC member who now is working as In-Charge Principal HSS Halran.
A case stands registered against the accused under Arms Act and police also is investigating the major security lapse on part of the police and other agencies for failing to get the weapon back issued to a VDC members under regular norms.
