Court awards life-imprisonment to husband for killing his wife | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 17: Principal Sessions Judge Udhampur R S Jain today awarded rigorous life-imprisonment to one Maan Chand of Morha Baggar-Jakhed, Ramnagar of District Uhdmapur who killed his wife on suspicion that the she had developed illicit relations. Principal Sessions Judge Udhampur R S Jain after hearing both the sides observed that the sentences are imposed to reflect the seriousness of the crime, to promote respect for the law, to provide just punishment for the offence, to afford adequate deterrent to criminal conduct and to protect the community from further similar conduct. "In awarding sentence the court must look in to the crime, the victim besides the circumstances of the criminal and the impact of the crime on community," court observed and awarded rigorous life-imprisonment to the accused Maan Chand s/o Firangu r/o Morha Baggar,village Jakhed, tehsil Ramnagar, District Uhdampur who killed his wife on suspicion that in his absence, deceased had developed illicit relations. According to the police case on 27/10/2012, an information received from Police Post Dudu by police Station Basantgarh to the effect that one Des Raj along with Ravi Kumar filed a written complaint at 6.10 AM stating that on 26/10/2012, Des Raj along with his sister Kantu were sleeping in one room when at 2 AM of 27/10/2012, his brother-in-law, accused Maan Chand having a intention to murder his sister started beating her with a wooden staff and drat (sharp edged tool) and thereafter the accused took out kerosene oil from the Diya (lamp) and set fire to the bed of his sister. He however has managed to run away and informed Rajinder Kumar and Ravi Kumar and when all of them went to the room, accused had run away. --(JNF) |
