Principal GMC Srinagar goes on protest leave 'Highhandedness' of Health Minister 12/17/2015 11:33:36 PM Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Dec 17: Principal of Government Medical College, Srinagar Prof Rafiq Pampori went on a protest leave on Thursday against the "highhandedness" of Health & Education Minister. The Minister, sources told Early Times, has been violating all norms in appointing his henchmen to key posts in the GMC and associated hospitals. "The Minister has also been issuing arbitrary transfer orders of employees of the GMC Srinagar and associated hospitals in violation of all rules and without even bothering to consult the Principal," the sources said. For example, they said, Dr Shafqat Khan, a junior medical officer with a tainted service record, was posted as Medical Superintendent of GB Pant Hospital some months ago when as per recruitment rules he is not even eligible for the post of Deputy Medical Superintendent. In fact a qualified and PSC confirmed Deputy MS has been made subservient to this blue-eyed appointee. Similarly, an ineligible candidate was posted as Medical Superintendent in the yet to be commissioned Super Specialty Hospital, Srinagar, even when there is no sanctioned post for the same. Also, a blue-eyed faculty member, Dr Abdul Rashid Badoo, has been posted as Medical Superintendent, Bone and Joint Hospital even though as per criteria he is not eligible for the post. Moreover, a senior faculty member of the GMC Srinagar was relieved of the additional post of Principal, Govt. AMT School, Srinagar who has been assigned as additional charge to the ineligible Medical Superintendent of Super Specialty Hospital, Srinagar. Reportedly, all this has been done so that the Minister gets his way in 'nominating' candidates for nursing and paramedical courses which has been a lucrative business in the past but was being resisted by the incumbent Principal of Govt. AMT School who is known for being honest and upright. The Minister has been in news for all the wrong reasons ever since he has taken charge of the Health and Medical Education department in the State and is notorious for bad mouthing employees and promoting his cronies and suppliers etc. despite their bad track record. The Minister has misbehaved with even female doctors and a lady doctor posted in Govt.
