Is Geelani running the State? | | | Muhammad Mukaram Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Dec 17: The pro-Pak separatist Syed Ali Geelani's diktat against a telecom service provider in Kashmir seems to have stirred the State. Also, after his fresh diktat against a former renegade, the State has launched a massive hunt to apprehend him, which suggests that the present Government must be taking suggestions from the separatist hardliner. Take the case of Ikhwani Rashid Billa who is alleged to have unleashed a reign of terror in north Kashmir's Bandipore district. His "oppressive" steps against people forced Geelani to issue a couple of statements in which Billa was accused of creating trouble for the Tehreek-e-Hurriyat leaders in Bandipore, resulting in their detention. Geelani asked for booking Billa for his alleged anti-people approach. After two consecutive statements from Geelani, police have launched a massive manhunt to nab Billa and put him behind the bars, raising suspicions as to whether police are following diktats of the separatist Geelani. In yet another case, where in BSNL was accused of sending obscene messages to its subscribers in Kashmir, Geelani issued a strong statement, asking people to boycott the company if messages aren't stopped. According to BSNL sources, the top management of the Nigam took stock of the Geealni's statement and ensured that the messages were stopped forthwith. Notably, BSNL General Manager Muhammad Saleem Beg said that the error was in Chandigrah office and it was rectified soon after the outcry was raised by people. The story doesn't end here. Earlier also, Geelani had urged people not to use ISM medicine Sanjeewani Vati, claiming that it contained cow urine. After his statement, the Government had initiated action against almost 400 ISM dispensaries, ensuring that the medicine was banned. A police official said "it's not that they are getting diktats from Geelani, it is their duty to ensure that law and order is not disturbed. "Anybody can raise genuine issues and it's our job to ensure action in the larger interest of people," he said. |
