Various Departments owe crores to PDD | Politicians, not public must use power judiciously | | ET Report JAMMU, Dec 17: A senior PDP minister is fishing in troubled waters. He has issued a statement on power scenario in the state. He said if people make judicious use of the power, the situation would improve. The minister should have urged the ministers, politicians and bureaucrats to make judicious use of power instead of the general public. The documents obtained under Right to Information from the office of Chief Engineer PDD (EM&RE) Kashmir by a noted RTI & Political activist Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat of Gopalpora Budgam under official letter No: CE/EM&RE:112/27263-96/TS Dated 3.1.2013reveal this whole mismanagement. As per last year's figures the government and its functionaries are the biggest defaulters of the Power Development Department (PDD) with arrears amounting to crores and this is not the case of Irrigation Division Pulwama only but most of the Govt Departments are the biggest defaulters as for as paying of power rent is concerned. Official figures dished out by the state government in the budget session of the legislature last year, more than 52 departments in the Valley owe Rs 271 crore to the PDD. The biggest defaulters of electricity tariff in the valley are the Public Health Engineering, Irrigation and Flood Control departments with Rs 184 crore outstanding against them. These are followed by Health Department with Rs 14 crore arrears and Police with Rs 13 crore arrears recoverable from them. Similarly, Roads & Buildings Department owes Rs 1 crore, Revenue Department Rs 2 crore, Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation Rs 1 crore, Animal Husbandry Department Rs 1 crore, Education Department Rs 2 crore. |
