Sunderbani, Dec 17: Civil Society members Sunderbani have alleged that the green forest cover in the tehsil and Rajouri district is being ruined by the wood cutting mafia that galore in the area, thus selling off the illegal wood under the very nose of the administration.
" While the state is under the strict ban of cutting down the green forest cover, revenue and forest mafia in connivance with each other is plundering the green wealth while the state administration is held responsible for failing to maintain check on it ," said Tejinder Singh, Ashok Kumar and retired inspector Rattan Lal while talking to Early Times ,
The society members alleged that there is forest denudation and devastation which is led down by forest mafia which enjoy the patronage of the high officials and are involved in illegal cutting down and selling of the green forest cover. "Even the revenue officials of the Patwari level are engaged in this process who have a clandestine arrangement with the illicit timber cutters and are equally responsible in the thievery," said Kamal Singh, rtd teacher Lekh Raj Sharma, rtd subedar Harnam Singh, all members of the civil society who alleged that illicit felling of the tress and transportation of the same has become a regular feature in this area. They said that block officers in the forest department get the maps cleared presented to them by the Patwari and then in illicit connivance with each other, involving the forest guards, they get the trees felled and transported out for illegal selling.
