Omar's latest pot shot against PDP 'hollow' | Has no moral right to ask questions on AFSPA, talks with separatists | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 17: In what can be seen as making noises as opposition party just for the sake of opposition, NC's working president Omar Abdullah has been doing so for some time while trumpeting on issues in a bid to corner rival PDP on which he and his party NC miserably failed to make any movement forward when he ruled J&K during previous coalition with Congress. Omar almost shouted it out today at PDP with satirical tone and questioned latter's silence on contentious issues like AFSPA revocation and talks with separatists, on which his party virtually succumbed to Congress tactical strategy, not to speak of jobs for unemployment of which NC made a mockery with youth under its much proclaimed SKEYPY Scheme. Omar's lashing out at PDP led coalition in which he targeted PDP alone in a rally today looked on proverbial lines of pot calling kettle black as tried to hit out at PDP with questions which could not find answers nor could solve these issues for six long years as Chief Minister of the state. One wonders why Omar is forgetting that all the three issues about which he posed direct questions to PDP high command today were in NC's political agenda as also in the poll manifesto of 2008 Assembly elections. Both NC and Omar as Chief Minister could neither push the talk of AFSPA revocation to logical conclusion nor could take separatists on board at any level during the previous coalition government. As Chief Minister Omar Abdullah did make some noise about AFSPA revocation occasionally but it was seen more often than not as the rhetoric when his government faced turbulent situations on account of intermittent incidents of violence, a couple of times severe to the extent that brought his government to an edgy situation of collapse. Since he was in coalition with Congress, the latter made him dance to its tactical tunes of delay and NC too never pursued the matter seriously before Congress high command for the sake of power. Same was the case with the issue of holding talks with separatist on which he made hollow calls and never made any effort to take the leaders on board at any forum. As for the issue of jobs for unemployed, Omar Abdullah has no moral right to corner PDP led government with questions as his government could not take any substantial steps other than boasting of a scheme under the name and banner of Sher-i-Kashmir for reaping own political benefits out of it. In fact NC-Congress coalition regime was synonymous, rather infamous more illegal and backdoor appointments rather than giving benefit to general and deserving people for various posts. |
