Jammu, Dec 17: Contrary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's digital India initiative, in J&K less than 20 percent secondary schools have computer facility. Sources informed Early Times that only 756 of 4198 secondary schools in J&K have computer facilities. At a time when the state battles with the gigantic problems of unemployment, the state government's indifference to introduce job oriented computer courses in all secondary schools is adding to swelling number of the unemployed youth. Blame it on the utter neglect of rural as well as urban students, in the era of information technology, thousands of students are still without knowledge about computer education as their schools are without computer laboratories. They further said that most of these secondary schools are in rural areas in which students from economically weaker families study. "756 schools situated in urban areas have computer facilities but most of them have no permanent computer teachers", sources said. "In 1990's no one thought that the computer industry would be a part of our day to day lives one day. But, now a days, be it banking, ticketing, messaging, day to day accounting or any other work, we use computers practically for every activity of our lives", a scholar Ajay Parihar said, adding that even, education department also guide students to download, upload form and submit fee online but surprising their own students were incapable to switch on these gadgets. Repeated calls to Commissioner Secretary School Education department Shaleen Kabra evoked no response. |
