Army puncture BJP's balloon, say no change in ground situation
12/17/2015 11:32:07 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 17: Two days after External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj patted her back and the back of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha for what she called the resumption of comprehensive dialogue process with Pakistan, the Army Commanders in J&K punctured the BJP's balloon saying there was no change whatever in the ground situation in the State or that there was no change in the attitude of Pakistan.
Rejecting any "flip flop", Sushma Swaraj on Monday had asserted that the decision to re-start talks with Pakistan was based on "trust" and said the intent would be to have an "uninterrupted" dialogue process despite provocations by the "saboteurs". She justified her visit to Islamabad and she also justified the decision to have "Comprehensive Dialogue", saying there was a "need for bridging the gulf" with the neighbouring country for peace and stability in the region.
Sushma Swaraj gave the nation to understand that her visit to Islamabad and her talks with the Pakistani leaders, including Pakistan Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif, will bring end to hostilities between India and Pakistan and also bring peace to India. And on Wednesday, she told the Parliament that "war is no option" and that peace will be restored and cult of terror tackled through talks.
However, it was none other than the Army Commanders on the spot in J&K who set the record straight by reflecting on the ground situation in the State.
Notwithstanding resumption of talks between the two nations, there has been no change in the Pakistan strategy to push terrorists and mercenaries into the Indian territory of J&K. "There is no change in Pakistan strategy as far as the LoC is concerned. Reports suggested that Pakistan army is going ahead with its plans to facilitate infiltration attempts along the LoC to create disturbances on this side," said GOC Srinagar-based 15 Corps Lt Gen Satish Dua on December 16. He pointed out that troops were maintaining high vigil all along the LoC and added that "there is no let up in the militant activities across the LoC, where they were camping at launching pads waiting for opportunities to sneak into this side" (to cause mayhem).
General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Nagrota-based 16 Corps Lt Gen RR Nimbhorkar also expressed identical views and said that despite snowfall, militants might try to make intrusion bids along the LoC. He reassured the country that the Army was ready to deal with all "challenges". The GOC Nagrota based 16 Corps was responding to a quarry if there was any change on the ground situation along the LoC following resumption of talks between the two countries. "See the static policy of our adversary is that they will help those whom they call freedom fighters and that is a different part of story and matter of perception," the Commander said. "Just see the last decade or so, they were always trying to infiltrate for maintaining the level of terrorism in our country, especially in this part of the State where we are. So the efforts will continue," he further said.
Lt Gen Satish Dua spoke in Srinagar and Lt Gen RR Nimbhorkar spoke in Jammu and the occasion was the "Vijay Divas" celebrations. It was on this day in 1971 that Pakistani troops surrendered and India liberated East Pakistan from West Pakistan. The creation of Bangladesh in 1971 was the immediate fallout of the 1971 war between India and Pakistan. Pakistan and Kashmiri separatists call this day a black day. Pakistan, in addition, also want to avenge its 1971 defeat at the hands of India and all of its activities in J&K are aimed at annexing the State and disintegrating India.
It is clear from what Lt Gen Satish Dua and Lt Gen RR Nimbhorkar said that things have not changed a bit after the December 9 controversial Islamabad declaration. The point is that the BJP-led NDA Government has trusted the untrustworthy Pakistan and given legitimacy to the Pakistan's anti-India policy. It is not for nothing that Pakistan, Kashmiri separatists and the parties like the PDP and the NC have all hailed the Islamabad declaration.
