12/17/2015 11:06:50 PM
Early Times Report

Srinagar, Dec 17: Vigilance Organisation today registered a second case against officials of Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) for allegedly abusing their official position and allowing illegal constructions near water bodies here.
The verifications conducted by the Vigilance Organisation Kashmir (VOK) into the allegations that officers/officials of LAWDA have allowed illegal construction at Pahloo Brain on the banks of Dal Lake have revealed that a single-storey concrete house was constructed by one Ghulam Nabi Hafiz in the year 2014-15 without obtaining any building permission, an official said.
The verifications have also revealed that the concerned watchers of the area, namely Mohammad Younus Lala and Abdul Rehman Dar, had informed the then Enforcement officer Shah Sikandar Khan about the said illegal construction, besides the Secretary LAWDA also directed the said Enforcement Officer to take action in the above mentioned illegal construction, VOK official said.
However, the said Enforcement Officer neither stopped the raising of the illegal construction nor took any step to demolish or stop the construction, the official said.
By acting in aforesaid manner, the then Enforcement Officer and others in league with the beneficiary have abused their official positions and allowed the raising of the said illegal construction against consideration and thereby conferred undue pecuniary advantage upon themselves and the said beneficiary, the official noted.
Accordingly a case under FIR number 52/2015 has been registered against the then Enforcement officer, beneficiary and others under Prevention of Corruption Act and Ranbir Penal Code, he informed. The vigilance organisation had already registered a case against the officers/officials of LAWDA in compliance with the High Court directions.
A Special Investigation Team has been constituted by the VOK to probe the allegations against the officers/officials of LAWDA regarding assets disproportionate to their known sources of income.
Some more FIRs will be registered in the near future in the case, the official added.
